From the first purchase made by the Regents in 1838 (Audubon’s The Birds of America) the University Library has grown into one of the top academic libraries in the country. With 19 libraries and close to 7 million volumes, the University Library is at the heart of the Michigan experience. From expert assistance in navigating complex print and electronic resources, to quiet places to focus and discover, to a premier digital library collection—the University Library serves all students and faculty. While nobody ever graduated from a library, even today, it is hard to graduate and be successful without one.
