1. How do I submit my resume?
Please submit your cover letter, resume and any other required information electronically to Development. It’s best to submit your items as a single document.
Online via the University of Michigan Careers site
Or via email: dev.careers@umich.edu (use only to apply for expired postings on the U-M Careers site or for non-specific positions)

2. Is there a particular format I should use when submitting my resume?
For the University of Michigan Careers site, incorporate a cover letter and any other required information into a single document with your resume—either through the 'resume wizard' or by attaching a file. If you send your resume as an email attachment to dev.careers@umich.edu (for expired U-M Careers site postings or non-specific positions), please send it in either MS Word or Rich Text File formats—"zipped" files are not accepted.

3. If I have submitted my resume through the main U-M Careers site, should I also submit it directly to Development?
No, it is not necessary to apply to Development directly if you have successfully submitted your resume on the University of Michigan Careers site (you will be able to review your profile to confirm that your submission was successful).

4. What happens to my resume once I submit it?
If you applied through the University of Michigan Careers site, you will be able to review your profile to confirm that your submission was successful. Your resume will be sent to the appropriate hiring manager immediately. If you applied by emailing your resume and cover letter to dev.careers@umich.edu, you will receive an email notification from Recruitment and Personnel Planning.

5. Do I have to apply for a specific position?
No, you can submit your resume to dev.careers@umich.edu and indicate in your cover letter that is it for a "non-specific" position.

6. When will I hear back if I've applied to a specific position?
We typically review resumes and contact the candidates invited to interview within two weeks after receipt of a resume.

7. Where can I find out about other positions available at U-M?
Visit the University of Michigan Careers site for all positions listed within the University. Recruitment and Personnel Planning is affiliated only with development positions; therefore, we do not have information on positions outside of the development community.

8. Are there opportunities for temporary and student employment in the Office of University Development?
Yes. Please send your resume to dev.careers@umich.edu and indicate in your cover letter that you are interested in temporary and/or student employment opportunities.

9. What do exempt and non-exempt mean?
"Exempt" refers to employees who are not eligible for overtime pay. "Non-exempt" refers to employees who are eligible for overtime pay. Please refer to the Compensation and Classification website for more details.

10. If a job was posted a few months ago and remains on this website, is it still open?
Our job listings are updated as positions are filled, so the jobs listed on this website are considered open. Postings are updated as positions become available or filled. Please keep in mind that some of our positions take longer to fill than others and may be open for extended periods of time.
