This is a full time; term limited position ending after two years with the intent to reevaluate for potential extension.

Position Description

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Executive Communications, the Public Relations Associate will support the public relations and executive communications activities of Marketing and Annual Giving in the Office of University Development, by planning, researching, writing, editing, and proofing messages to publicize gifts, provide stewardship to donors, and promote fundraising at the University of Michigan through newspapers, periodicals, audio and visual, and electronic communications.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities that support activities to produce press releases and executive communications (80%):
*Write rough drafts of press releases and materials for executive communications that represent fundraising at the University of Michigan in a compelling and consistent way to inform the public, steward current donors and attract potential donors.
*Research topics pertinent to press releases and other communications using a variety of resources such as the internet and internal systems.
*Develop and maintain follow-up systems to ensure that deadlines are met and information and/or approvals required for press releases are received on time.
*Review and edit content to ensure it conveys a consistent organizational message and adheres to U-M and organizational formats, styles, language and branding standards.
*Create Power Point slides to support fundraising presentations.

Other communications responsibilities (20%):
*Meet other departmental communications needs as necessary such as proofing and copy editing on other cross-functional and internal communications.
*Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

*Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
*Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
*Excellent attention to detail and proof reading skills; spelling, grammar and punctuation
*Ability to set priorities, handle multiple assignments and deadlines, and display excellent judgment, while operating in a flexible and professional manner
*Demonstrated ability to handle confidential materials and situations with sensitivity and discretion is required
*Experience and skill with Word, Excel, and Power Point
*Ability to embed links into press releases and other written communications
*Initiative and creativity
*Ability to work proactively
*Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
*A great can-do attitude

Preferred Qualifications

*Familiarity with University of Michigan policies and procedures is preferred
