Position Description
Basic Responsibility:
To plan, initiate and coordinate individual major gift cultivation and solicitation activities on behalf of the College of Engineering and to manage fund-raising activities for designated major metropolitan areas.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities:
Provide field leadership in a defined geographic territory in major gift programs on behalf of Engineering; act as liaison with central and unit development officers to coordinate major gift solicitations.
Develop and carry out appropriate and effective programs for prospective individual major gift donors; coordinate the involvement of alumni volunteers and University staff, faculty and officers as appropriate in planning and implementing programs and solicitations.
Plan and manage life-time programs of involvement between Engineering and prospective major gift donors to increase levels of individual giving.
Identify and evaluate prospective major gift donors.
Solicit gifts from individual potential major gift donors and negotiate on behalf of Engineering and the University; ensure the effective presentation of trust, bequest and other deferred giving instruments to volunteers and prospective individual major gift donors.
Plan and direct programs for the identification and involvement of individuals as volunteers in major gift programs; supervise the training and participation of volunteers in major gift solicitations.
Plan and direct Engineering development and alumni relations programs and activities including dinners, receptions and visits by the dean, officers and faculty in designated major metropolitan areas.
Serve as liaison to one or more departments as part of the College's Department-Based External Relations program.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree. Considerable experience in successful fundraising, especially in direct personal solicitation programs. Considerable experience in volunteer leadership and management. Strong communication skills, especially in the preparation of written communications and knowledge of data base management and personal computer. Willingness to travel far and frequently and to work some evenings and weekends. Ability to work with minimum supervision and maximum collaboration in a team environment. High level of creativity. Ability to handle high volume of fundraising activities simultaneously.
