The University of Michigan School of Public Health creates and disseminates knowledge with the aim of preventing disease and promoting the health of populations in the United States and worldwide. We are especially concerned with poor, often minority populations, who suffer disproportionately from illness and disability.
We place a strong emphasis on integrated approaches to solving public health problems, and our faculty and alumni have been pivotal in the development of the Salk Vaccine, diabetes gene identification, safety techniques of nanotechnology, effective healthcare management, creating evidence-based environmental risk assessment, researching antibiotic resistance issues, and the prevention of the spread of infectious diseases.
