Opportunities for Personal Giving
The Alumni Association is an independent, worldwide organization that nurtures lifelong relationships with and among current and future Michigan alumni. As a committed partner of the University, the Association offers programs of relevance and service to alumni and creates support for the University. Underlying all that we do is the belief in the value of education to the well-being of society, and a commitment to integrity, diversity and service.
As an independent organization, the Alumni Association is governed by an alumni board of directors made up of volunteer representatives from alumni club districts, each school/college and the alumni population at large. The Association has more than 100,000 members.
The Alumni Association relies on membership dues to offer extensive programs and services that benefit its members and the University. Membership dues account for 45 percent of the Association's revenue. Association programs that support the University, students and alumni include:
- Alumni volunteer assistance in student recruitment and scholarship interviews.
- Scholarship programs awarding nearly $500,000 annually.
- Programs of student service to the University such as the Student Alumni Council (SAC) which offers networking opportunities for students and alumni.
- Alumni Societies which are organized on a school-wide basis for schools and colleges of the Ann Arbor campus and also on a campus-wide basis at the UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint campuses.
- Alumni clubs in more than 70 locations around the world. Clubs are involved in social and athletic events, student recruitment and University and community service.
- Career services for alumni.
- Alumni involvement in University decision-making, public outreach and legislative advocacy.
Membership in the Alumni Association is a great way to stay connected to the University, alumni and students. Here are the highlights:
Networking and Career Services
There are an estimated 400,000 living U-M alumni and the Alumni Association is the key to reaching them through the all alumni directory, local alumni clubs, Alumni Locator Service and Alumni NetWorks, which provides career networking for alumni and students.
Save Money
Members receive discounts on hotels and rental cars, special rates for group health, life, auto and homeowners insurance programs, and other valuable programs and services.

Educational, Recreational and Social Activities
Members can travel with fellow U-M grads on Association-sponsored trips to destinations worldwide. Year-round activities are held at Michigania, on beautiful Walloon Lake in northern Michigan. There's also Camp Michigania-East in upstate New York. Alumni education seminars and conferences provide alumni with lifelong enrichment opportunities.
Stay Involved
There are many ways for members to be involved with the University, whether they live near or far. Michigan residents can assist with the Association's Legislative Advocacy program. Alumni around the world are needed to help with student recruitment. Alumni can provide career counseling to students and other alumni by signing up for Alumni NetWorks.
Stay In Touch
Members receive a subscription to the Michigan Alumnus magazine, a publication that brings alumni "back to Michigan" through its feature articles, campus news, photographs and alumni information. Members also receive e-TrueBlue newsletter and TrueBlue regional newsletter.
