Opportunities for Personal Giving
The School of Education faces greater challenges today than ever before. Teachers must be prepared to teach new and complex types of knowledge while they deal with an array of societal problems students bring with them to the classroom. To support its mission of improving teaching and learning at all levels of education, the School offers bachelors', masters', and doctoral programs in a wide range of fields. Some of our most outstanding programs include mathematics education, science education, literacy education, educational technology, and higher education.

Fund for Excellence
The annual fund supports the School's extensive program of merit-based scholarships and fellowships in a number of academic fields and provides extra support for innovative academic programs and special projects. The Fund for Excellence also gives the School flexibility to meet unforeseen needs and take advantage of unexpected opportunities.

Memorial/Tribute Funds
The School has a number of scholarship funds named in honor of or in memory of faculty members and alumni. Some Memorial/Tribute Funds are long-term interest-bearing accounts and some are endowment funds.

List of Memorial/Tribute Funds

Endowment Funds
Endowment funds are invested in long-term securities. While the principal will never be spent, a portion of the income is made available for specific purposes determined when the endowment is established. Endowments are critical to the long-term stability of the School because they provide a perpetual source of income that is not subject to political and enrollment fluctuations. A gift to an endowment is an especially meaningful contribution for alumni: no other investment in the School is likely to yield longer-term results.

Dean's Discretionary Endowment
This fund allows the dean to respond quickly to urgent, unforeseen needs and opportunities that arise throughout the academic year. It has provided income for scholarships, research needs, conference costs, and equipment purchases.

Student Aid Endowment
Student aid is a vital factor in maintaining the School's ability to attract and retain outstanding students. The Student Aid Endowment is a relatively new fund established to provide a permanent source of tuition assistance to education students.

Endowed Faculty Chairs
Strengthening the faculty will bolster academic programs and focus talented minds on tough educational problems. Through endowed faculty positions, the School of Education can attract more top quality, productive faculty members to posts that are highly regarded throughout the profession.

The minimum amounts required to establish endowed faculty chairs are presented below. Actual costs for endowed faculty chairs are decided by a number of factors, and are decided on a case-by-case basis.

Professorship - $2,000,000
Visiting Professorship - $1,500,000
Research Professorship - $1,000,000
Faculty Development Professorship - $1,000,000
Collegiate Professorship - $500,000

Trusts and Bequests
Deferred gifts permit individuals to leave a valuable legacy in support of life-transcending interests. Many trusts allow donors to realize lifetime benefits for themselves or loved ones while providing support to the University.

Recognition Levels
The School of Education recognizes its donors for their cumulative giving:

Angell Society - $1,000,000
Ruthven Society - $500,000
Hutchins Society - $100,000
Tappan Society - $50,000
Presidents Club - $15,000
