We seek to communicate current science research to the public, engage faculty in programs and exhibits, support undergraduate and graduate student learning, and provide dynamic and appealing outreach activities to the community at large.

Opportunities for Giving

The Annual Fund
Gifts to this fund support the Exhibit Museum's many free educational programs.

Director's Strategic Fund
This discretionary fund will enable the Museum director to allocate funds for unmet needs and unanticipated opportunities.  Discretionary funds are also used as matching funds for grant applications, often leveraging additional support.

Exhibit Underwriting
Gifts support the updating of existing exhibits and the development of new exhibits.

Endowment
The Exhibit Museum invites you to "make a gift that keeps on giving" by supporting the William F. Farrand Public Lecture Fund. This endowment funds a public lecture on a natural history topic each year. Dinosaurs, space travel, earthquakes, global warming, insects, migration, extinction—these and other topics will be covered in years to come.

School Scholarship Program
Gifts to the School Scholarship Program make it possible for students from underserved public schools to visit the Museum on fieldtrips. Docent-led tours align with Michigan Curriculum Framework standards in subjects such as prehistoric life, Michigan wildlife, and astronomy. Research validates the benefits of informal science education and experiential learning to encourage students to pursue studies in science.

Planetarium
Every year, thousands of school children students, and families visit the Planetarium. With the installation of new digital equipment in 2007, the Planetarium offers exciting shows such as "Origins of Life," "Black Holes," as well as regular Star Talks about the current night sky. Gifts to the Planetarium offset the cost of purchasing new shows and maintenance upgrades for the new equipment.

Corporate Sponsorships
Businesses may sponsor a variety of special events, including the annual Halloween Party, Discovery Days, I.D. Day, and other unique events with a natural history focus.

Why become an Exhibit Museum Sponsor?

  1. Excellent public recognition when your company is credited in all promotional materials as a sponsor of the Museum. The Museum is a treasured local asset, with over 2,100 specimens on display. Admission is free, and the Museum is open 357 days a year to over 70,000 visitors.
  2. Fantastic opportunities to involve your employees and their families in volunteering at a fun, activity-filled, Museum event. Working together at a Museum event is a great way to increase good will and teamwork among your employees.
  3. Your sponsorship makes a difference! Although the Exhibit Museum is part of the University of Michigan, we raise over ½ our budget from fees, donations, memberships, grants, donors, and corporate support.
